I maybe watch a little too much TV (Mourning Gnus, 5/27/09)

I guess this is more your AfterGnu-n Gnus. Ha! I crack me up.

Tell us when you're ready to feel that emotion, Senator: I've written before about how I can't stand it when people say I think I'm in love. You don't think you're feeling an emotion, you just feel that emotion.

That's why it bugged me when Senator/Okay Guy Russ Feingold this morning told a talk radio host that the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor was "potentially exciting."

It's not exciting yet? But could be?

Coming up with names for programs would be the lowest-tech high tech job I'd be qualified for: Ever wonder how companies come up with the names of their high-tech products? I didn't, until today, when I read that "Live Search" has been code-named "Kumo" but when it becomes available for you to search with, it'll possibly be called "Bing."

Because nothing could be better than telling someone who asks a question "Why don't you Bing it?" I can see the tagline now: "Bing It On!"

And yet, I can't shake the memory of that episode of Friends when Chandler renounced his first name and told the rest of the Friends "I have no first name."

To which one of them said "So you're just going to be Bing?"

I don't want to just poke fun, though. I want to help out, and so I have a suggestion for a name for Microsoft's search engine that's sure to lodge in people's minds and stick to the product. Ready? I suggest calling it: Not Google. It rolls right off the tongue -- try it: "You're using a search engine that's Not Google? Why?"

Google Waffle Update: Man, I forget about it for one day and I drop out of the top 5? Links to my blog with the search term "Sticky Waffle Sandwiches" are still 1-2, but I'm down below the fold, as I like to say. Go link me back up!

Website of the Day: If you go down a little further on this blog, you'll come to "Ad It Up," my announcement of a major new way of looking at books, and ads. To celebrate that, I will also link you to Lileks' Page of Comic Book Ads.

Just Exactly What Life Looks Like...
the
next book I'm writing. A collection of short stories about cowboys and scientists and safaris and more cowboys and probably an art teacher and there's also one about a bunch of people sitting on a hill...

Look for it online in Summer/Fall 2009. And, for a limited time only, I'm offering a chance to be part of the bold new future of publishing: Sponsor my book! Click here to find out more about this.
